The area
Low, rolling hills covered with cornfields and pastures, vineyards and woods characterize the area in which Bournizeaux, within the municipality of Loubès-Bernac, is situated. The ‘hameau’ (hamlet) lies off the scenic route that connects the small towns of Eymet in the South, on the little river Dropt, and Sainte Foy-la-Grande in the North, on the river Dordogne. Eymet and Sainte Foy-la-Grande are so-called bastides, fortified cities built during the Hundred Years War between the French and the English. They are attractive towns to visit; sit on a terrace, enjoy the French cuisine and, of course, the local wines. Not far away, around 20 kilometres distance, lie the historic cities of Duras and Bergerac. Bergerac, splendidly situated on the river Dordogne, is a popular tourist destination (not only because of famous long-nosed Cyrano and his Roxanne) and centre for the wine area with the same name.
Further away
Bournizeaux lies exactly on the spot where the departments of Dordogne, Gironde and Lot et Garonne meet. ‘Les Clefs’ is ideally situated for day trips by car over a wide area. Within half an hour’s drive from Bournizeaux, you will find yourself in the high hills of the Dordogne and Lot, with their beautiful landscapes, historic cities and castles. To the West, it takes about an hour to reach Bordeaux, a fine city that attracts many visitors. Driving to the North, Périgueux, capital of the department of Dordogne, and the picturesque villages and towns of the Périgord Vert, are good destinations for a day trip.
